I am very curious - as a game programmer, you want all the performance the HW can give you, but a lot of complexity (at the hw level) is in the name of performance (OoO, superscalar, etc.) Would you rather have a simple scalar in-order core even in the domain of video games?

Consider things like using shared virtual address space (so cache operates on virtual memory) and security regions are decoupled from page tables (so no TLB on hot path, just a smaller "security region" table).

Sorry, my bad. I don't think you can make CPUs that are faster in an absolute sense at single-thread code. I think you could make CPUs that are just as fast, but more efficient. Sorry - my brain is so hard-wired to "flops/watt" = "faster" right now :-)

I'm curious what sort of jump we'll get when we ditch ~radio frequencies over electrical circuits and transfer to another medium... whether it'll be a "everything is obsolete" jump, or whether it will follow the typical exponential advancement curve.
