It's really shocking how bad @gmail is now. I didn't really realize just _how_ bad. Trying to send mail to the beta testers for my course, fully 10% of them had the mail sent to "spam" or "promotions" and never saw it until we worked out what was going on :(

I think anyone who uses GMail should be really aware that a significant portion of their legitimate mail is probably getting filtered without their knowledge. A large number of people who mailed _me_ about the course also got sent to "spam" for no reason.

At this point I would say that anyone using GMail should consider it a "lossy" communication channel and act accordingly. It is not trustworthy, and cannot even guarantee that it won't mark mail properly _even after you have told it the same sender wasn't spam_.

I'd highly recommend switching away from GMail. I know everyone always says (including me) that they'd like to switch away from it because the interface is horrible, very slow, can't send builds as attachments, etc., but this adds a new layer of awfulness that warrants action.

So assuming we want to actually be able to _talk_ to each other in the future, reliably, we're going to need to switch away from GMail to something reliable. That's basically all there is to it. Thread concluded :)

I would prefer a way where everbody could easily get his own domain (or one global) so he never needs to change his email address when changing the provider. I don't like addresses from providers. Like mobile numbers.

http://Mail.Yandex.Com  is quite good for your own (free) domain hosting; offer it as a part of the package for the startups I’m working with
