As we come into 2020, I am now pretty sure I picked the wrong career. If I had known what computers were going to become, I probably wouldn't have wanted to be a programmer. It is definitely no longer a career for people who take pride in their work.

It depends. There's "embedded" as in digital thermometer and there's "embedded" as in MRI scanner. In either case, the hardware is somewhat fixed, so you don't have to target differently buggy systems. The closer you are to the former, the more your team controls the hardware.
