As we come into 2020, I am now pretty sure I picked the wrong career. If I had known what computers were going to become, I probably wouldn't have wanted to be a programmer. It is definitely no longer a career for people who take pride in their work.

He’s fed up with windows, macos, linux. (I don’t understand the frustration w the last one, myself.) But you could always get a QNX license, and start building industrial strength software. Mission critical software for medical, aerospace, railroads, etc.

Not just the OSes, but the dev tools, the SDKs, libraries, everything - it's a disaster for shipping quality software. It takes literally hundreds or thousands of hours of work to engineer a solid experience on top of these things, and most people (understandably) don't bother.
