As we come into 2020, I am now pretty sure I picked the wrong career. If I had known what computers were going to become, I probably wouldn't have wanted to be a programmer. It is definitely no longer a career for people who take pride in their work.

If we had been more stringent about what we labeled "science" and what we labeled "opinion", we probably wouldn't be in such a terrible spot today. There will always be real science deniers, but I wouldn't blame anyone in this day and age for being wary of "science".

The fact that there is a lot of good actual science out there is hardly something that helps, because citizens don't have personal experience with, say, astronomy or the LHC. They remember that the entire medical community told them eating cholesterol was bad and carbs were good.
