[2/3] This is the weirdest thing I've ever seen an OS do. You sleep the machine, then when you try to wake it up, it will not respond to anything. Not the peripherals, not the power button, not the reset button, not even _holding_ the power button.

@Jonathan_Blow recently said that Windows was a lost cause unless they put an adult in charge. I don't think one adult is going to do it at this point :( I can't believe how bad Windows has become. NT used to be my favorite OS, and now it is a complete disaster.Show this thread

So, my Windows 10 machine sometimes restarts, when it should shut down. So I have to actually restart it and then I can shut it down.

I've had my laptop just stop being able to start any program and then get stuck on restarting, luckily holding down the power button works. It's happened about 10 times in the last couple months

I feel like they should take the Linux approach at this point and open source the kernel, just to see if anyone can help fix bugs like this. And obviously that's basically IMPOSSIBLE, so they may as well start with something different.

Don’t use sleep, it’s been broken since inception. Use hibernate. You have to enable it in power settings, but it’s quite reliable, very fast on SSDs, and uses no power (dumps memory to disk).

Yeah set a Windows laptop to hibernate and it should work as expected. Afaik what Windows calls "sleep" ("power the RAM for a couple hours till the battery dies") is a weird outlier. Mac/Linux default sleep mode = Windows hibernate.

mine sometimes wake up from sleep suddenly. that's weird, no notification, warning or something important. normally I must push power btn to wake it.

I have Win 10 Pro with a cable Ethernet connection 24/7 and I use sleep quite often, yet I never had this issue.
