Art is when you tell the world what you want it to hear. Commerce is when you tell the world what you think it wants to hear.

Fun counterexpamples though: I understand that the cast of Casablanca didn't think the movie would be any good. Also, if I understand correctly Michael Brough wouldn't have played Corrypt himself, and Sean wasn't keen on it either in spite of making Promesst

Again, perhaps more correctly you would say, "Art is when you _are trying_ to tell the world want you want it to hear." In some senses though, I might want a definition of art that excludes some things otherwise included, such as "The Room" by Tommy Wiseau.

How about an post modem approach (the author is dead)? Art is when it tells you what you 'should' hear. Commerce is when it tells you what want to hear.

I think 'accidental' art is possible, when you skip the intention of the creator and look to the reaction of the perceiver. Accidental means it's not in the intension of the author. What if we don't care for that ?
