That was just for phrasing, as you might expect. "Art is when you X the world what you want it to Y. Commerce is when you X the world what you think it wants to Y."

But I agree the standard of "does the person making the thing feel, themselves, that the thing is a good thing?" is a fairly useful differentiator. Artists should get high on their own supply :D

My experience is that artists undervalue the quality of their own work, and marketing and businesspeople overvalue their own work, to a comical degree. So maybe self-evaluation is not such a useful metric.
