I also love the "math blocks are limited to 1000 characters". Because I guess 1001+ characters is just way beyond the size of an equation that one could reasonably consider rendering with web tech?

Me neither, and sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, on the same system in the same situation AFAICT. Just more web dev bugs as usual, presumably, but I haven't looked at the code to see what the likely culprit is/are.
