Using opaque, uncorrectable(!!) machine learning for something as important as whether or not people can ship software - in many cases something that determines whether companies stay in business and devs put food on the table - is absolutely unconscionable.

To make matters worse, this is in their anti-virus software, which only exists because their operating system doesn't have a usable permissions model, can't properly sandbox, and is riddled with so much bloat and so many security vulnerabilities that it has to include one.

The whole concept that the world's primary desktop vendor now has an untested and malfunctioning AI virus deployed everywhere under the guise of helping to prevent malicious viruses is absurd, ridiculous, and only seems common because of how bad computing has gotten.

Would this get fixed by Dolphin signing their executables with an 3rd party certificate? I mean, that costs a few hundred IIRC, but isn't that the "correct" solution?
-
My signed game regularly gets false positives from virus vendors, so probably not.

The same argument can be made for YouTube's de-monitization algorithms. Using machine learning to determine people's lively hoods is wrong in a world without machine learning explainability.

We had similar case with other major av provider that started to "mark" our game as "potentially unsafe". They said that from now on we have to send them our app to review with each new release (for money). One letter from our corp lawyer and they fixed their buggy detection code

Is this the same system Chrome is consulting when it won't let me download my own builds, or is Google's cloud AV just broken in the same way?
-
No, I think that is a separate (and also terrible) virus checking system.

I wonder if this is more fuel to the fire that scares developers into adopting some common software stack like Electron. If every app updates the same way, it's probably easier for the ML to figure out it's not a virus. Gaming the algorithms would drive the development.
