I ask because it seems like people probably type their password for site A into site B sometimes when trying to log in. It seems like you could hack someone's account at a _different_ site just by logging these attempts and then trying them on other sites.

i only assume so? but lets be honest, people are dumb enough to use the _same_ password across websites so....

sounds similar to how credential stuffing works, except you wouldn't have to breach anything (and either way you'd want to try common variations of passwords)

Yup passwords suck. I always recommend password managers to generate passwords to prevent reuse.

Didn’t Sony do just that but instead gave the list away to others?

I think the dominant algorithm is: 1) breach stupid e-commerce sites. 2) if the passwords are hashed (slightly less stupid sites) pause your bitcoin mining to search most of them out. 3) add them to the giant password databases on the Tor net.

I was thinking of a news letter that allows for people to unsubscribe by putting in their password for their "account" and using their email and password on other sites.

Bonus points if you let them sign in using their e-mail. Extra bonus points if they use the same password as on their e-mail.

The other idea is to create login page and add input for user name and password and label "login with google". I know _a lot_ of people that they just type their gmail credentials without thinking.

The first thing I do in the morning at work is accidentally type my home PC credentials into my work PC, and the first thing I do at home is the opposite. If I worked two different jobs they could hack into each other *so* *easily*.
