[2/3] @WIRED, for example, just ran a piece on twitch coding and mentioned streamers that are much less popular than @handmade_hero. The most-watched streamer they mentioned, as far as I can tell, has 152k views on Twitch. We have _over 3 million_.

[3/3] The views on YouTube were similar. Top streamer mentioned by
@wired was 271k views. We have 4.6 million. I suppose it doesn't really matter, since the people who need@handmade_hero seem to find it organically, but it is pretty bizarre...Show this thread -
And as an aside,
@handmade_hero got those cummulative 9+ million views without ever running a single ad, and without ever having been written up in any mainstream media outlet even once.Show this thread -
The only articles that have ever mentioned
@handmade_hero at all were a@gamasutra article when we first went live (the only people ever to write about us!), and then we were briefly mentioned in a KillScreen article about low-level programming. That's it. In 5 years.Show this thread

when was the last time any major tech press outlet even mentioned C or C++? seems pretty weird considering every important piece of software is built with them
-
Yes, that is a very good point.

I wrote about Handmade Network/Hero for Kill Screen some years ago. Has no one written about it since?
-
To the best of my knowledge, there have only ever been two articles that mentioned Handmade Hero at all. One was yours, and the other was a GamaSutra article when we first went live. That's it.

I think
@handmade_hero is an absolute treasure. I personally watched 150 episodes so far and I hope to watch all the remaining ones. Not looking for a job but have learned a lot and am in awe of your ability to stream day in and day out and tackle many non trivial problems live.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Articles don’t just get written about things because they are more popular or more watched than other things. It’s not a popularity contest. Also, just because there’s an article about content A doesn’t mean there can’t/shouldn’t be press about content B.
-
Write press releases! Outreach to press outlets. They generally aren’t great at finding content, tbh. They often times need it pitched to them. Either directly or indirectly through agents and publicists. If you want press, get it.
