In this passage from "The Case Against Sugar", @garytaubes succinctly sums up my opinion of modern medical "science" and why it's so frequently so wrong about so many things, all while its community seems to remain unconcerned about its extraordinarily poor track record.pic.twitter.com/XyXfOfTa3E

Yikes - citation required! All my medical parents were taught about the very severe limits of nutritional science, and this is reinforced whenever MEDICAL guidance is given. Completely correct that most stuff in books about nutrition is bollocks. Like... er... that one.

Having read countless nutrition "science" papers myself, it is very clear that there is no such attitude whatsoever. If you claim they are thoroughly taught this in school, then I guess they forget it later? Or maybe something about nutrition science filters out rigorous people.

Generally the latter. Or I guess I'd argue that anybody with a sufficiently rigorous approach never has results robust enough to publish as a paper interesting enough for you to have read?

The other obvious problem is that the most easily studied subjects are those who are already sick. So how much do those lessons (e.g. types of cholesterol and heart disease) apply to the general healthy populace?

But those are reasons why studying the problem is hard, not why those who do it are unable to see that they are drawing incorrect conclusions.

That's what I'm saying - those who can see it either pick some other discipline, or rarely publish papers, of which few make headlines. That's what happens when you study the most adaptable omnivore on the planet - we can survive on just about anything.
