At one point Linux stubbornly refused to detect my *trackpad* as anything but a PS/2 mouse. Hilariously it still kinda worked but without gestures or tapping

Robust mouse input is a fairly difficult problem to solve, because a major variable in how it works is purely perceptual, and there are many other variables (mouse precision, resolution, dynamics). I wonder if a clear, legible and usable implementation is even realistic :)
