This is usually one of the things I think about in dismay when I am using some kind of "modern" piece of crap software that can't scroll at (at least!) 60fps.

Author of CygnusEd here. The main thing I miss from the CygnusEd days is actually the intentional *slowness* of CygnusEd. It would generally take about ten frames to get to the scroll destination so that your eye could easily track the motion. 60 fps, yes, but smoothed scrolling

The test is to watch as somebody else presses page-up or page-down. If the editor jumps straight to the target then a viewer can't tell which key was pressed which is (IMHO) bad. A few frames of scrolling makes it obvious. Smooth scrolling to find results is an important use-case
