Since @Jonathan_Blow was talking about how bad modern software is, I thought it might be a good time to re-post this video of how fast CygnusEd (a text editor) was on the Amiga _thirty years ago_:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L41oIvre9K0 …

No, it is because it is not plugged into an NTSC monitor. The Amiga used a regular television for output, so it was 60 _fields_ per second of display output, which means that if you try to pipe it to a modern (progressive) monitor, it becomes 30 frames per second blurred.

I upped my key repeat rate in windows but visual studio is too slow to keep up so I'm at the visual studio speed limit ;_; On a 4ghz ryzen cpu ;_;

Author of CygnusEd here. The main thing I miss from the CygnusEd days is actually the intentional *slowness* of CygnusEd. It would generally take about ten frames to get to the scroll destination so that your eye could easily track the motion. 60 fps, yes, but smoothed scrolling

The test is to watch as somebody else presses page-up or page-down. If the editor jumps straight to the target then a viewer can't tell which key was pressed which is (IMHO) bad. A few frames of scrolling makes it obvious. Smooth scrolling to find results is an important use-case
