This is usually one of the things I think about in dismay when I am using some kind of "modern" piece of crap software that can't scroll at (at least!) 60fps.

Ok now I want to get an Amiga and keep it around as a reality check. I never actually experienced old machines professionally. My first PC ran Win 98 and I only remember reinstalling the OS all the time. I did it so often, I think I still remember the license key.

That is on a 7.16 (7.09) MHz 16/32-bit processor, albeit with graphic coprocessor(s). Hundreds of times weaker than the cheapest ARM processor today.

You do have to adjust for the lower screen resolution, though (modern density is at least 4x, but probably more like 16x). Still a very unflattering comparison, though :)

And no mention what the scene actually managed to get out of this computer... If you are not familiar with the spec, this runs on a 7.14Mhz computer with 512K memory and is stored on two 880K floppy disks - released in 1991.https://youtu.be/89wq5EoXy-0

That's more smooth and faster than most of current text editors. Amazing how people stopped caring about optimization.
