Imagine two bridges. One has a visibly rigid construction. Its blueprints are hanged in front of it, with several engineers studying them. The other is covered by curtains, with just one businessman standing in front, telling you to trust him that it's fine. Which would you take?

That's being generous. In the case of the MAX, it is more like getting into a taxi and nobody has told you that there is a bridge, and nobody has ever inspected the bridge, and the first time you find out there was one was when your taxi's on it and it falls apart.
