Must have been a nightmare creating the island, just tweaking an area would no doubt break several puzzles/unlocks in the process.
Am assuming they had thousands of unit tests covering the main puzzles and areas.

So it's important to underscore that there was no "unit test" style discovery there. The system was written to be able to produce a provably good map.
