@Jonathan_Blow any recommendations for a laptop for development and some gaming? I'm trying to avoid shelling out for a l33t g4mer laptop if I don't have to.

A USB-C powered TKL mechanical keyboard with laptop/NUC guts inside would be nice

I'm very happy with the Thinkpad P52. Only downside is the numpad/offcenter keyboard, but I mostly use an external keyboard anyway, and the off-center-ness wasn't too hard to get used to. My fingers never find the home keys on first try, tho!

It is also big and heavy.

I feel the opposite. That laptops have gotten better and better. What's your thoughts on the Lenovo p1?? https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-p/ThinkPad-P1/p/22WS2WPP101 …

It is a step in the right direction for Lenovo to be sure (and has physical buttons, thankfully) but if Jon's X1 is any indication, the quality needs a lot of work, and the old underpowered GPU is a bit of a dealbreaker for serious game development.

what about asus g703. The only compromise here is weight I guess. https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ROG-G703/ …

Again, the problem is the offset keyboard.

My favourite these days are the i7s or i9s they stick in them with coolers suitable for a raspberry pi

Should prob point out the xps's from Dell despite having a non removable battery are VERY serviceable AND actually come with a decent service manual. Not the graphics grunt needed tho. But supports Linux perfectly so ++ from me
