Me: Everyone's web site is way slower than it should be. Web: That's because they have to scale! Me: But it seems like things still go down under load. Web: ... Me: Amazon runs AWS, and _their_ site didn't even stay up! Web: Oooh look! Someone released a new JavaScript framework!

there's way more to take into account in terms of infrastructure trade-off when having to ship software to a big sandboxed blob such as the web. Aka it sucks and I think ppl are actually trying to solve and deal with its inherent pitfalls.

The "we have to scale" argument is frustrating, because small websites typically scale better than ones that use huge frameworks and complicated rendering code. Many of the problems that modern web developers face are problems that they've created.

I ran into this a while back when looking at efforts to port Qt to WebAssembly. There are sometimes good reasons to reimplement parts of the web, but they come with the downside that you're effectively building a browser inside of a browser.https://twitter.com/DanielShumway/status/1009255261599563776 …

On one hand, this is impressive. It shows what WebAssembly is capable of. On the other hand, oh my goodness native developers do not understand the web. http://blog.qt.io/blog/2018/05/22/qt-for-webassembly/ … #javascript #webassembly #qt

There are conflated definitions of "scale" at play. Nobody's saying UI frameworks help things scale with regards to performance; they help things scale with regards to complexity. Also, Amazon faced a server-side issue, which has nothing to do with JavaScript frameworks.

If you're going to jump on the beat-up-on-web-developers bandwagon, at least have some small understanding of the field first.

that's casting a huge net. A lot of web developers would agree that the web sucks and most websites suck. Any web developer that enjoys web development isn't worth hiring. Most decent web developers are web developers for exactly one reason: it's the only job they can get.
