Thanks! That was my assumption, but I wasn't sure...

Well, Vulkan is kind of a non-issue, since it doesn't actually get you anything anymore. But when we port to Mac, we probably will _have_ to use Metal, since it will be the only game in town. On the PC, I suppose we'll port to D3D11 eventually.

On a contract project 2 years ago, we looked at migrating the code to Metal, but found a significant number of users were on old hardware that couldn’t run it. I would be amazed if Apple actually removed OpenGL in the next few years.
-
Can’t speak for game devs, but the image editor folks I know migrated to Metal some time ago, or they’re using frameworks that abstracted it away.

On iOS it gets deprecated too. Meanwhile at the moment opengl calls pass through Metal under the hood. Still I don't think they'll pull the plug anytime soon

I'm pretty mad about this since I'm learning OpenGL on OS X. It's such a dick move and I wonder if Microsoft is going to do the same. I think Apple put the nail in the coffin with gaming on a Mac. I feel like we will be forced to learn Vulkan to get the portability.
-
More of a dick move to not Update GL in 7 years and not bother to officially deprecate it earlier. :-/ Metal is actually pretty good, but even as a long time Mac user Im not excited to support it separately.
