And related, was incorrect kerning of OTF fonts a known bug on Windows 8? Have there been improvements to Windows 10? I haven't had a lot of luck finding discussions of this on-line, but it seems like a real mess at the moment :(
So, have you found that Windows is doing any of this stuff correctly, or is it generally broken compared to when you've implemented it yourself? Or Photoshop, for that matter? Do TTFs seem better than OTFs, like they just have a better reader for them, or is it shared?

In my experience, whether the wrapper is .ttf or .otf is irrelevant, and it appears that everyone uses shared reader code. Because I have my own code to handle it, I don't have enough experience with the Windows text layout stuff to tell you how well it works.
