By popular demand, today at 12PM Pacific we will be trying (and almost certainly failing) to build TensorFlow on Windows. Come join the futility at !

Someday, in the distant future, humans will finally develop sufficiently advanced technology to have credit cards which don't need to be manually updated everywhere every five years when they perpetually "expire".

At this point I receive a new class action settlement offer for 1-2 years of identity theft protection long before the previous one has run out. The "credit monitoring" industry can basically just run off class action lawsuits at this point; no need for actual customers.

Due to the ridiculous number of "likes" on my suggestion that I do a stream where we try to compile TensorFlow on Windows, I guess we're going to do a stream where we try to compile TensorFlow on Windows :) I need to test the new streaming setup anyway... stay tuned!

The "Ten Worst Colleges for Free Speech" for 2020 has arrived: Unsurprisingly, is still on the list (they'll probably be top 10 forever), but note the surprise Lifetime Censorship Award win for !

This podcast is really nice, it includes a bunch of old school stuff that you may not have heard about in the standard "game press interview" kind of thing with him in the past.

I feel like we should do a stream where we try to get TensorFlow to build on Windows, just for maximum comedy value / depression.

I attempted to install Visual Studio 2019 Community Edition. The installer went to 98% and then ran for sixteen hours using ~60% of 4-core 4.2gHz i7-7700K the entire time. Eventually I just terminated the installer task.

Microsoft is no longer able to even list their own applications in their own control panel without absurd, ridiculous bugs. Windows is just waiting to die at this point.

One comment would be that the actual release build didn't get any faster. That compiler flag _turns off_ some optimizations on large functions - so this is basically just a tweet to celebrate giving up trying to get a release build of tensorflow to take less than two days.

I've always thought secret A/B testing of prices is a somewhat shady business practice, but this is a new low. Here's two desktop browser instances and two handhelds all looking at the same course:

For more convenient reading, here is the rollup of my thread about why you have to switch away from to something reliable.

So assuming we want to actually be able to _talk_ to each other in the future, reliably, we're going to need to switch away from GMail to something reliable. That's basically all there is to it. Thread concluded :)

I'd highly recommend switching away from GMail. I know everyone always says (including me) that they'd like to switch away from it because the interface is horrible, very slow, can't send builds as attachments, etc., but this adds a new layer of awfulness that warrants action.

I was just commenting today about how slow it is. Why does Gmail have a loading screen in 2020? I compared the load time for Gmail vs The Witness and The Witness loaded twice as fast, this is insane.

At this point I would say that anyone using GMail should consider it a "lossy" communication channel and act accordingly. It is not trustworthy, and cannot even guarantee that it won't mark mail properly _even after you have told it the same sender wasn't spam_.
