The latest Greenhouse Gas Emissions report reveals Seattle building emissions have increased by a shocking 8.1%. The People’s Budget just in Nov proposed to slightly increase the Amazon Tax for $20M in urgent building retrofitting. Not one Democratic Councilmember supported this

Seattle City Council Democrats chose to double deeply regressive car tab fees rather than a tiny increase in Amazon Tax on pandemic profiteers. We've seen again & again: Democrats being out of touch w working class creates fodder for the right. Working people need a new party.

And yes, car tabs ARE regressive. Car tab fees are 1 of the most regressive, punishing taxes on working people, many of whom have been heavily fined or even jailed for not being able to pay. The right wing then cynically tap into understandable anger to attack vital services.

Given the choice between $175-$185 million in austerity (budget:cuts) on working people's housing and services, or making big business pay a little more in the Amazon Tax, City Council Democrats today chose budget cuts, protecting big business & making workers pay for the crisis.

This is the difference between Democrats and socialists. Establishment politicians promise, but when faced with actual decisions, side with big business. As a member of and as an elected workers' representative, I will always stand with workers, not big business.

Working people face unprecedented attacks in this recession. We'll need to build mass movements. We can't rely on "persuading" Democrats to do the right thing. They won’t. Instead, we must organize independently & build our own party accountable to workers, not big biz & the rich

In city after city, Democrats have betrayed promises made during the height of . Demonstrating yet again that our movements, and movement leadership, need to be independent of the political establishment. And that we need a new party for the working class.
