It's a very strange argument to be offered that we should "be nice" to people who openly and aggressively dehumanize us in a literal way on a daily basis. And I'm simply not buying it. It's completely clueless at best.

Moreover, I find it fascinating that when members of marginalized communities are harassed and assaulted and killed simply for being who we are, the civility police are strangely nowhere to be found in ensuring those who hate us are polite in public.

It would seem that people who offer this argument don't really believe in civility so much as simply not wanting the responsibility to call out vile bigotry. Peddle your cowardice elsewhere.
