When she was in the library, I kept saying, "She has stealth 100. She's going to be okay." Who better to kill the fucking Night King than a servant of the God of Death and, arguably, the greatest assassin on Westeros? That's not a Mary Sue, it's completing her character arc.

She was literally the most qualified person to kill him and has been training to go unnoticed for seasons. It's sad, and even sadder when you consider maybe they wouldn't have blinked an eye if Jon had made it in time.

Plus! I love Jon but he basically always runs in to be the reckless hero and basically never manages to do it.

Yep, Jon's complete lack of subtlety and guile nearly got everyone killed. Night King didn't raise the dead until Jon can tromping along after him.
