Also, can we talk, for a moment, about the bullshit surrounding the open source initiative defining what a software author may or may not say is open about their software?https://twitter.com/CoralineAda/status/1176281403253825536 …

I mean, if evil people can have the freedom to do as they please, I can certainly do as I do please. Perhaps other voices really are leading a new way. (see @sarahmei and get commentary on the establishment of what open source is)

Let's take a look at another movement what had led to strange gatekeeping: Agile. If we take the position that agile is about community, support of that community, and the ways that the community finds to build software together (https://medium.com/@Hanna.Thomas/why-dont-we-just-call-agile-what-it-is-feminist-8bdd9193edba …)

Then agile as defined by one organization or another is, effectively, bullshit.

So, let's get back to open source. The days of the RMS free software foundation are, blessedly, passing into our rear view mirror. As an open source maintainer, I am far more interested in making people's lives better and being a contributor to a larger community.

This community has a fair few who are "in it" for glory or power. There are people who hate, discriminate, and abuse. These are NOT the people I support. I would not welcome them to my projects.

Furthermore, if I had a way to disallow people from hate organizations, and criminals who are hurting people from using my software, you damned well better believe I would do it. Does that mean my software is not "Open?"

I'd rather chose another word altogether than continue saying I'm part of the OSS community, knowing that I must accept that evil people being evil is just "part of your dues."

So, fine. My software isn't open. It's not open for hate, discrimination, abuse, harm, etc. It's not there for people who intend to inflict injury. So, it's there, it's free, I encourage contributors, but it's not open. It's humane software. That's where I live.
