Jesse Clement’s Tweets

This is the error message you get when you try to share a Mastodon link. Imagine being the engineer who has to add these strings. (I guess my Twitter account now exists to criticize Twitter… No, I don’t and would not pay for my blue check-mark; I got grandfathered into it.)
Twitter error message that reads, “ We can’t complete this request because this link has been identified by Twitter or our partners as being potentially harmful. Visit our Help Center to learn more.”

The UX paradox: Pain points make us think about how something works or doesn't. They're areas where you can peel the wallpaper. When tech is seamlessly integrated into our experience, it becomes transparent. We stop noticing it. If tech changes us, we fail to see the mechanism.

We pay too much attention to the most confident voices—and too little attention to the most thoughtful ones. Certainty is not a sign of credibility. Speaking assertively is not a substitute for thinking deeply. It's better to learn from complex thinkers than smooth talkers.

Behold the person who won Twitter today. This is delightful.

.@Scobleizer's Apple fanboy tweets are so repetitive that I successfully trained an AI to generate an infinite amount of Robert tweets, forever. Meet @RobotScoble. Now you can finally take a break, Robert. See you next January 😂 twitter.com/RobotScoble/st…

This is why I've always loved this man's work. We share a very specific cognitive bias.

I either 1. don't understand how the world works at a fundamental level, or 2. I do understand it, but I hate it so much that it paralyzes my capacity for rational thought npr.org/2022/08/03/111
I don't believe anyone is a "Metaverse expert" (after all, it doesn't exist yet) but I do have niche knowledge about emerging technology and its intersection with diversity, equity, inclusion & compassion - and I want to share that! I honestly think... I might... write a book?!
A screengrab of a slide titled "Metaverse-like Traits". Several boxes underneath are labelled "Multi-user, Ownership, Avatars, Multipurpose, User-Generated, Spatial, Immersive, Persistent, Multiplatform, and Interoperable". The slide is styled in a bold, cartoon-y way with bright pink and blue accents.
A screengrab of a slide titled "What's Your Why?". On the left, text reads "It's not otherwise possible". On the right is a branching tree. The three branches read "Geographically Limited, Physically Impossible, and Dangerous, Expensive or Prohibitive". At the end of the tree are several examples of use-cases for immersive technology, including "Teach about places by going there (e.g. the Moon), Embody an avatar of a different gender to yourself, Training (working at height, fire safety) and prototyping products". The slide is styled in a bold, cartoon-y way with bright pink and blue accents.

At the end of the tree are several examples of use-cases for immersive technology that specifically help with inclusion or accessibility, including "Travel for the elderly or bed-bound, Meet people of shared marginalised identity (e.g. LGBTQ+), pain relief, enhance sight for visually-impaired people, exposure therapy, and curating a museum to platform under-represented stories". I crave a new Myst. A place to explore, where you have to study how things work to set them in motion again. A place built by engineers and astronomers and poets. A place where you need to stop and observe and build. A game where there’s no “press X to solve the ancient riddle”.

I am so here for the only content using the word metaverse I can imagine trusting.

In my upcoming "no nonsense" metaverse talk, I'm going to try to identify the types of traits/features people mean when they use the M-word. The more traits, the more metaverse-y the experience. Anything you would add to this list? Have I overlooked anything obvious?
A colourful slide titled "Metaverse Traits". The traits listed below are multi-user (remote), ownership (buying and trading of digital items using real or virtual currency), avatars (not necessarily human), multi-purpose spaces (from social to work to retail), 3D spatial (VR and AR), immersion using tracking (hand, eye, full-body) and haptics, digital twins (virtual copies of real physical items), and multiplatform (the ability to move from one platform to another, and possibly to have assets persist between platforms and worlds).

Oh look, it's the best, most concise summary of HCI, UX and UI I've seen in awhile.

Because terminology is complex, of a specific context, and a specific era. Human computer interaction (HCI) is the general knowledge base. We use User Experience (UX) as the logic foundation of the work happening, in contrast to User Interface (UI) as the artistic foundation.

Since there seems to be growing confusion on this: I have nothing to do with anything that FB is up to involving the Metaverse, other than the obvious fact that they're using a term I coined in Snow Crash. There has been zero communication between me and FB & no biz relationship.

So...is Clubhouse just Zoom/Skype/Messenger but with no video, more sociopaths per capita and exclusionary access rules to drive up the perceived value through scarcity? It's kinda right in the name, isn't it?

The virtual exhibit on the other end of this link is top quality - and that's even before you see the mind bending art that actually comprises it. Give it a click!

Here we go, folks. First they bought , who excelled at spatial mapping. Now is having users harvest 3D maps of spaces for them? Surely this means more complex real-world interactions are on the horizon! Oh, also...they're building their own AR Cloud map?

My Facebook Reality Labs Face Computer arrives tomorrow. I will put my face in the Facebook face computer and face the reality that Facebook Reality is the reality we must face if we don't face the consequences of Facebook's control of our face computers.
