A General and Adaptive Robust Loss Function They propose an analytical function that can represent a family of well known robust cost functions just with a single parameter (alpha). Alpha lets you walk through L2, huber, cauchy, tukey and more.

If you’re into natural experiments (and even if you’re not), this is really cool.

I'm sad that the funding we were successfully granted has been revoked because I am going on maternity leave and apparently an extension to account for this is beyond the remit of the funders. It's hard to win funding, to have it taken away again after so much work is gutting 😭

Dr. Bik's work in finding and calling out science image manipulation is unparalleled. This (how about ), manipulated flow cytometry plots, is shocking. Gonna put on my immunology PhD to work and explain some context for this experiment. 1/n

Hey academics on Twitter: Have you ever been scooped? Do you worry about getting scooped? My job market paper estimates the consequences of getting scooped in science using cool data from structural biology. Let’s do a thread!

Excited to present a poster tomorrow at AACR-NCI-EORTC in Boston about our latest work on how "ERK pulses drive non-genetic resistance in drug-adapted BRAFV600E melanoma cells" (LB-B09,12:30-16:00). Can't pass by? Take a look at our pre-print:

Hello world. Here’s something interesting: from my lab trained a deep convolutional neural net in cancer histopathology *and* genomics using 14M images from 17k H&E slides across 28 cancer types. The outcome is stunning. 1/5

Arthur: Then who is your PI? Student: We don't have a PI! Arthur: What?? Student: I *told* you! We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune! We take turns acting as a sort of PI for the week. Arthur: Yes...

These below are 'oncodriver fireworks': pulses of ERK reactivation spontaneously arising in drug-adapted melanoma cells. Read our new preprint to discover how ERK pulses bypass RAF and MEK inhibitors to drive melanoma growth:
