Imagine thinking that what that guy put forth was an argument.
Literally "whoever gets the last word wins, no matter how little sense it makes"
The guy must live in constant fear since as far as he knows, everyone around him is pro murder since most people haven't publicly denounced it.
I can't wait for @FederalistPitch to post "Being against the death penalty is pro-murder."
Where are these people getting the idea that debates have point-scoring systems?
Or, for that matter, that this was a ‘debate’ in any meaningful sense of the term?
They're probably thinking of debate club in high school... Something some people have heard of mentioned in movies but have never actually seen the scoring system for.
I'll never forgive the Shapiros and the Kirks of the world for forcing the word "debate" into the mainstream so losers everywhere get to turn every human interaction into a chance to flex their big iq
I’d like to posit—with Ted Cruz being lead evidence—that school “debate teams” are garbage cults that turn political conversation into performative sport.
And add to that “critical thinking”, which in practice means coming up with the most plausible conspiracy theory you can as to why any mainstream source is a lie.
haha it’s kinda like how a certain Mr. Rubin always boasts of being in favor of “big eye-deee-yuhs”
Aside from this not being a high school team event, you aren't required to refute points in a high school debate. Partly because that would make Gish Gallop an automatic win. But these right wingers don't actually know about debate rules, it's all about posing as intellectual.
Is James Earl Jones for or against destroying planets with a giant space laser? We'll never know if we don't get him on the record.
@AnthonyHopkins could you tell us if you are for or against cannibalism?
These people are dense
"you didn't even responded to my entirely assinine point ergo I win the argument"
um actually it's well known that most arguments in the real world are judged like lincoln douglas debate tournaments for highschoolers
