I’ll never stop being confused about that. Sure, unnecessary (surgical??) procedures on infants should be opposed, but who the fuck cares SO DAMN MUCH about an extra flap of skin on their dick?

I agree, a lot of the activists go a little crazy, but I think the problem people have with it is the principle of the thing than the actual physical effect. It's an extreme dismissal of bodily (and sexual) autonomy after you've been alive for less than a couple hours

My take on circumcision is that it's bad, but just like kind of bad. Not really bad. My sons are not cut, but anyone drawing a comparison between circumcision and FGM needs their fucking head examined or their cheeks kicked in.
-
What if it's a victim of the latterhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ggqa6CCTR-4 …
-
Yep, still super wrong. FGM is explicitly about removing the sexual agency of women. It is a full removal of the pleasure organ. Get the fuck out of here with this bullshit
-
FGM is not always done to damage to female sexuality (even if it invariably does) and can technically involve damage or removal of any part of the vagina. And no, it's not "full removal" of the "pleasure organ", the clitoris is extensively internal and embedded in the vagina.
-
Meaning it's exceptionally difficult to totally remove and no form of FGM on record has ever done that (not that partial clitoral removal isn't damaging/wrong.) It's cool you'll shout down even a victim of this with an image informed by anatomical illiteracy and propaganda.

There is documented benefit to circumcision. It is small, but it exists
-
Medical benefits would have to be weighed against complications from a medically unnecessary surgery, though.
-
The benefits are marginal enough that either decision for/against is reasonable. Rate of complication is extremely low- it’s minimally invasive. Both the AAP and AUA lay out the evidence pro and con in good detail

then you have the other side which compares banning male circumcision to the roman prosecution of jews

I liked one tweet about how the government should use taxes to regrow foreskin and suddenly in being courted for a new movement

It’s like vaccines. There’s criticism to be made about the pharma industry and regulatory capture which grants them immunity from liability for poorly-made vaccines...but god do you not want to get into that end of the pool, eww.

Yo if this was about me none of it was really directed at you, just other people who said dumb things about it in your mentions (I should have tagged you out of all cases of it, didn't think you'd get obvious notifications for it)
