The @NellieBowles piece on @jordanbpeterson tries to portray him as believing that that the only legitimate role for women in society is in the home. This is a completely false assertion. 1/

Peterson is a professor of Personality & Individual Differences. What this means is that he understands in granular detail that not all women are cut from the same cloth. 2/

My personality, for example, is not typical for that of woman. I'm high in disagreeableness, which is more common among men than it is in women. B ut for a person of my disposition, working in a competitive environment is essential. 3/

But it is not for everyone! And that is all that Peterson argues. The idea that competitive occupations (politics, business, etc) should have 50/50 gender parity simply IGNORES the data on personality & occupational preferences between the sexes. 4/

The second point about enforced monogamy should not be as controversial as it is. Anthropologists have known for a long time that monogamous societies tend to have better outcomes for women & children. See here: http://rstb.royalsocietypublishing.org/content/367/1589/657.short … 5/

It's completely reasonable to look at current norms around sex, dating & marriage in western socieites & ask if they are maximising the happiness of both men & women. To suggest this is inherently 'misogynist' simply betrays a lack of reading & lack of imagination. 6/

Again, the hit-pieces that keep coming out on Peterson demonstrate 2 things: 1) many journalists cannot interpret cultural phenomena except through an ideological lens and 2) many journalists are simply incapable of consulting empirical literature. End.

What views of his are misinterpreted? Peterson is a reactionary who obfuscates with science.
