      Claire Lehmann Retweeted The Nation

I was expecting this piece by @Minkowitz to be full of innuendo, misrepresentation & guilt-by-association. But it goes even further, by simply making stuff up like this 👇https://twitter.com/thenation/status/1202615123384381440 …

      Claire Lehmann added,

      The NationVerified account @thenation
After fascists killed 88 people in mass shootings in the past year, sparking calls to de-platform white nationalist websites, Quillette spoke out vigorously against these attempts, and even condemned progressive protests as “mob” attacks on “free speech.” http://bit.ly/2Ry6VDd

~@minkowitz claims to be able to read my mind. Apparently she “knows” why I want to open up the Overton Window & that is to bring about a state of fascism in the US (I don’t even live in the US). Here’s why she is wrong.

The first thing to crumble when civilisation falls apart is the political centre. A German poet once wrote “in times of extremes, the middle path is deadly”

The middle path, or the political centre, is not protected by the promotion of milquetoast policies everyone already agrees on, it’s protected by defending foundational principles such as free speech, open inquiry & due process.

In times of extremism, each of these principles fast becomes a casualty of war. All that’s left is tribalism and a fight to the death.

Many US media outlets are accelerating their foray into extreme partisanship & are delegitimising anyone travelling along the middle path. You’re either with them or against them.

You can see the machinery of delegitimatisation at work in @Minkowitz piece. She makes incendiary, outlandish claims about what we have published without providing links back to our articles so readers can see for themselves.

I may flesh out a response in coming days itemising every false claim that @Minkowitz has made. But it may not be worth it as they are so obviously hyperbolic.

Just want to encourage everyone to keep travelling the middle path, even though it is risky. The centre can, and will, hold 🙏

The writer of the piece says there are 14 links in it. So are you going to rethink this response now? Check the article at least to see if Clair is lying here? Just wondering. Wouldn't want to be intellectually dishonest.
