This is exactly why I don't send my sublime (bordering on the divine) poetry to anyone in the 'Literature Industry.' First-and-foremost, they're incapable of reading subtext. There's not enough room in a Tweet to list the other reasons.

My guess is the poet writer was anticipating needing a job in the near future. Not apologizing might have precluded that. He’s talented and sincere. It’s a good voice to have if he can keep working.

It’s nuts. In the end it results in less empathy and simpatico with marginalized groups. I liked the poem. I thought the poem was saying not to diminish people and was effective. In disparaging it, the people reduced themselves. No apology necessary.

I wanted to quote tweet this, but there was nothing more for me to add. A sad situation literary art finds itself in.

It’s not what we mean, nor is it what we actually say, nor is it even really how others take what we say, but now meaning is determined by all the potential ways that what we say can presumably be taken by some victim class. Thus victimhood is the only meaningful category left.
