genuinely love to see such a thorough breakdown of why AI is theft and why the WGA strike matters coming from America Magazine, the national publication of the Jesuits

If you steal my car and then chop it and put it together with parts from millions of other cars you’ve stolen to make a “new” “original” car, then guess what? You still stole my fucking car. #WGAStrong americamagazine.org/faith/2023/05/

I’ve been in so many rooms where someone will talk about, like, how a colleague stood up for her in a meeting, and then other women chime in to tell positive stories they’ve heard about this man, and it becomes accepted knowledge that this man is good. Do men know we do this

Do men know there’s also a whisper network for good men? Like, do they know women also tell each other about the men who are allies and advocates for women, and we share specific stories about why they’re great? And we recommend them for jobs and opportunities. Do they know this!

CHICAGO FRIENDS go show your solidarity for the WGA strike and you might get the chance to meet my incredibly rad friend , featured in this article

TV and film writers may be concentrated on the coasts, but Chicago has a few, and they’re raring to go Wednesday when members of the striking WGA plan to picket outside NBC Tower downtown. trib.al/0DQuSgk

I wanted so badly to buy a bunch more legos but it would be so foolhardy because A) I will just have to transport them to a new house in a few months and B) there’s literally no work table here, but I want to do the wildflower ones so bad

The IRS has quietly built its own prototype system to allow Americans to file tax returns digitally and free of charge, according to three current and former agency officials, essentially creating government software that could disrupt the industry.

1. Write a “Star Trek: Picard” novel about Beverly Crusher’s last 20 years 2. Finish REWIND FILES 2 & 3 and get them out in the universe 3. find a super cool lady showrunner who wants to develop the trilogy for streaming (after WGA wins the strike ofc)

ALWAYS be vocal with your goals. If you see this, qrt with three goals you want to achieve! You never know who might be listening. 1. Write narrative stories in the Star Wars universe 2. Become a Story Lead for an immersive theme park experience 3. Host a very nerdy TV show

in the 1941 Disney’s animators strike, the reason it was so effective was bc it was a fucking great time. Sunshine, dinners, musicians playing, dancing in the streets. “They became the most enthusiastic strikers I had ever seen in my life.” Joy + community = power + endurance

what a messed up world we live in that writers are all arguing with each other over whether we’re allowed to seem happy. things are so bleak even the notion of joy is controversial

but also like, more broadly, a lot of folks have written far more eloquently than me about how this is really a bellwether moment about whether as a society we're just going to let everything that keeps us human get automated out of existence, so every artist has skin in the game

wait and I think my aunt was a labor organizer in the Kaiser hospital system for like, several decades??? anyway two things that are true about Willetts is that we will always vote for a tax increase and we will always support a strike

however, my brother Christopher is a film editor who has been busting his ass for YEARS to get into the union and finally did, after like a decade of work he did for streaming platforms not being recognized by the industry as real work, so I do have a horse in this race

I do not write for film or television! (yet??) there is no union for novelists, and the Dramatists' Guild for playwrights (which I keep meaning to join but haven't yet; maybe now's the time?) functions differently, I believe

Replying to @clairewillett
Why are you not a WGA member? Is there something they could be doing differently, or image you a member of another union that has better coverage of your kind of work?

in love with IATSE and the 399. It’s been incredible to see such solidarity and recognition of what this moment is and could be: a fight for the future of fair working conditions and reasonable wages for ALL Hollywood workers. WGA will stand with our fellow unions when they call

Talked to some other WGA members who r thankful4 the solidarity shown by IATSE & Teamsters during this strike. Whole productions shut down w 2 picketers cuz Teamsters & IATSE wont cross. Writers ive spoken to are definitely gonna return the favor. #WGA #DGA #IATSE #TEAMSTERS

I am simply a bossy Virgo whose love language is using spreadsheets to create infrastructure, who has a lot of Twitter followers who like Star Trek and a compulsion to take on one million projects because I only trust myself to do things correctly

you know how SNL's "Brian Fellowes' Safari Planet" sketches had that voiceover disclaimer about how Brian had no actual zoological expertise, "he's just an enthusiastic young man with a love for all God's creatures"? that's how I feel every time someone assumes I'm a WGA member

I can’t believe the first episode of And Also Some Women comes out tomorrow! I was so fortunate to be able to speak with @libbieschrader about some amazing research she’s doing on Mary Magdalene and with @dianabutlerbass about the incredible sermon that research inspired.
