Local news has a bright future. Let's not conflate its promise with the death of the newspaper -- to be clear, not a state I celebrate, but expecting a 1:1 replacement, or a new "business model" for the Daily Miracle, is the wrong goal here.

The fall of Yahoo is one of the great media stories of the 2010s. At one point there was no larger news source. Things have, uh, changed. Good luck on this stuff, guy!

Media reporting is so bad and unhelpful to readers around company revenue. This week, a bunch of people wrote stories about BuzzFeed revenue, with no context.

Does anyone know how much it costs to have a "hit YouTube series" Asking for a friend (Also another way to view this story is... the investors taking over. Right...?)

Major thanks to the Quadrivium Foundation for believing in this mission. As put it “having strong local journalism is key to holding government accountable.”

This is almost the definition of breathless hype and there is almost no actual news in it (except promotion for a forthcoming book) so I guess congrats on winning the news cycle or whatever Total empty calorie reporting.

I was particularly taken by: Vice ...(is) delivering to advertisers eyeballs from a niche audience. That is almost never the route to success in publishing. has interesting things to say abt a volume strategy with a niche audience. Niche monetizes differently!

We're looking for a Director of Audience at . As a newer org folks often have questions before they apply. That's why we have a "hiring hotline". You can schedule a 20 min call to ask me anything you might want to know before you submit your application.

Philly's patchwork rail system is super confusing, particularly for new arrivals; this $40M rebrand (!!) won't even address the Regional Rail, which has its own charming complexities (not all trains go the full route of the line they're on, some are expresses, etc.)
