I do think the idea that Murray and others (some academics in the field too) have that genetics and polygenic scores enable us to easily separate nature from nurture is wrong and potentially dangerous. PGS drive from GWAS, and GWAS is less well controlled than twin studies

I read some speculation that the outbreak might be caused by a "recombinant" virus. This, in turn, led to some "conjecture" that it might have been made in and escaped from a lab. Recombinants can occur naturally, as well as be made in the lab. So I wondered [1/n]

PGS offers an amazing tool for all sorts of research, including social sciences, but they are not a magic bullet and we should be very sceptical of anyone who seeks easy answers to policy questions from them

This is incorrect. Here's some recent lit on how & why existing PGS methods do not fully separate genetic from environmental effects on traits, particularly when comparing across populations.

Thanks to continued data sharing by the Wuhan Institute of Virology and the Thai National Institute of Health, we're beginning to see a genomic picture of the outbreak resolve. Interactive visualization at . 1/7

Given a few other results & caveats mentioned in the MS, which you can read here: we find that it's not so much ⛰ as physical barriers but climate & environmental fluctuation that drive divergence, even across the mighty Andes mountains.

I found this story just totally fascinating. This Brown U. prof is a frequent expert witness against drug companies. Last year, Brown told him to stop using his affiliation on a paper criticizing J&J + canceled his class on the misuse of science
