Observation: I'm discovering that the piece of voter information that seems to be the most difficult to find on official state and local web pages is the hours when the polls are open. Other info, esp. ID and registration, usually easy to find. UX another issue...

We looked at all the state websites leading up to the 2018 midterm. -hard to tell which site is for voters! -many seem not to know what voters have questions about -most assume that you know the details are on your local site (but aren’t connected)

General rule for Florida: on Election Day proper, polls are open from 7am til 7 pm. Early Voting hours vary by county/location.

Turns out if you Google "Florida election day poll hours," the state website is the top hit, and it does in fact give the info. (they may want to add "local time," to signal the time zone problem, but that's minor.)

The trick for state Web site designers is to try out different ways voters might search for polling place hours. Lots of ways to do this, but expertise varies enormously between jurisdictions.

Search engine analytics to tell you some of that. Unless you don’t have analytics, or a search box on your website.

We do occasionally see these kinds of things in government.
