I hope to expand audits across the ‘election system’. Tabulation audits (such as risk-limiting audits) are performed on the ‘voting system’. Great piece from @civicdesign explains basic election terminology that often is misunderstood.https://twitter.com/civicdesign/status/1057978944417226753 …

This varies quite a bit, so I'm not so sure it's standard (although happy to standardize and distinguish however makes sense!).

For example, in political science "voting system" is often specifically about the mathematical method for counting voter choices (first-past-the-post, IRV/STV/RCV, Boorda, etc.), Not about the technical system that facilitates that

(this is why the Wikipedia entry for "voting system" just recently established a redirect to electoral system but clearly uses "voting system" throughout.)

that being said, happy to use voting system/election system/electoral system as outlined in the post! Especially because it makes it clear that things like "voter system" clearly aren't a thing ( https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/russians-penetrated-u-s-voter-systems-says-top-u-s-n845721 … )

Something to keep discussing
@JoeBeOne. When I’m speaking about risk-limiting audits I refer to it as a post-election audit of the vote tabulation equipment. So there are times when it helps to be extremely specific.#nomenclaturematters1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -
Fair. We debated this, to and ultimately assumed that our audience was voters and journalists who are not political scientists
