The combo of “hard” being imprecise & “voting in America” being a broad generalization. Voting is so different across the country - all mail ballots in OR, no voter registration in SD, 28 days of early voting in IN. Many examples of voting being less than “hard” on average.

The steps are all basically the same. The question is how much friction it takes to get through each one, and what the burden of each step interacts with in the person’s life. I might point out that OR and SD are definitely exceptions.
