I've noticed a trend when people are interviewing experts about national policy issues and developments. They ask the expert "What advice would you give Pres. Trump?" But I rarely hear, "What advice would you give our audience or people who care about this issue?"

When we treat national and international policy as a conversation amongst experts, journalists and policy makers we push people out of picture and don't help people understand the impact of these debates on their lives.

@jcstearns ! There is some good research coming out this summer in the Elections context when reporters focused questions on voters and their choices in a campaign vs campaign personalities and horse race. Better when people have voice and agency.2 replies 1 retweet 4 likes
