Many social justice organizations—some of whom are on the Justice Policy Board— disagree and believe the report will help identify people who should be released from jail while awaiting trial, rather than being moved from one jail to another.

The County and Sheriff’s office say they need these beds in the Atlanta jail immediately— and waiting until November for this study to be completed would perpetuate a “humanitarian crisis.” They believe the data they’ve provided to date meets the “spirit” of the agreement.
