I'm simply convinced it's not misplaced. Sorry. They're broadcasting their intentions clear as day. There's a such thing as misplaced confidence, too.

The military won’t back a coup. I recommend @Tazerface16’s many tweets on the matter. And with that, trump will be leaving in January, and that’s the end of it. Mostly we’ll be glad to have you back in Jan. Only two months, and you won’t need to worry anymore.

I'm doubting the plausibility of that actually succeeding but they sure as hell are trying:https://twitter.com/mccaffreyr3/status/1326669857266397184 …

Sure, I get that. But with no chance of success, is there any conclusion other than “no need to worry”? Someone posited that trump might build an exact replica of the Oval Office in trump tower and become president in exile, which I found amusing. It’s not especially worrisome.

Yes. Mark me down as alarmed. This POS is going to look for any way to do damage or maintain power until he can.

Right. It’s fine to be alarmed. But to let it take over your life isn’t worth it. On a scale of 1 to covid, this ranks a solid “possible earthquake”: brief, ultimately irrelevant event that society will recover from with minimal damage. There won’t be zero. But it’s not inf.

Ultimately, self-preservation will take over for trump. He knows if he pushes it too far, then prison is on the table. It’ll be just fine. But, hey, I thought he was going to win the election, so what do I know. I’ll be glad when January comes though.

I think the key question is whether raising alarm about a possibility makes it more or less likely to happen. In some cases yes - worrying about mail delays results in people mailing ballots earlier. My guess is early alarm is good here too, but I can *imagine* the opposite.

That's a good angle that I didn't consider going into this. Thank you. My original angle goes back to something I was thinking about on Election Day: if reality plays out differently than you predict, then that's worth self-reflection, and maybe an adjustment of your inputs.

As for alarmism: I remember people saying Bush wouldn't leave in '08, and Obama was going to open FEMA camps to usher in the new world order in '16. I remember people saying Ohio was stolen from Kerry in '04. A few examples of many that make me skeptical over time.

That's really not a fair comparison. The difference here is that the POTUS is actually telling us his intentions. And he keeps acting upon it, with powerful enablers. I don't get why you're relegating this to the "conspiracy theory" bin.

It’s not a conspiracy theory. You’re correct in your analysis. But the simplifying factor is that no military = no power. The most they can do is leave and then do .. something. That something won’t have an effect on the core of DC though.

The way I see it, there's not much to say until Dec 8 (states certify their votes) and Dec 14 (Electoral College votes). Meanwhile, despite the bluster on social media, nothing remotely alarming is happening in court, where lies have actual consequences.

From what I've been reading, this is probably the closest to the truth. Trump will say whatever, but nothing will happen, and in the meantime everyone else is content to try and make a buck off of it.https://twitter.com/Ike_Saul/status/1325994997007708162 …

259/ Trump is going to test the limits of our institutions, and I have seen nothing to make me think the institutions won't prevail. At this point, it looks like this is -- more than anything else -- a plan to fundraise & motivate the base in GA for January. The race is over.
