You may be right. But what if you're wrong? You're making a prediction that will probably be conclusively proven or disproven. If disproven, how will you adjust?

I don't think it can be any clearer that there's an attempted coup here. We've been told for months by Trump himself that this is how it was going to go. The attempt is unambiguous. If it fails? Great! I will have been an alarmist at worst. I'm used to being wrong.

Alarmism isn't a neutral force, though. Misplaced alarmism will either tune people out ("the boy who cried wolf") or lure them into an misplaced radicalism.

I'm simply convinced it's not misplaced. Sorry. They're broadcasting their intentions clear as day. There's a such thing as misplaced confidence, too.

The military won’t back a coup. I recommend
@Tazerface16’s many tweets on the matter. And with that, trump will be leaving in January, and that’s the end of it. Mostly we’ll be glad to have you back in Jan. Only two months, and you won’t need to worry anymore.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

I'm doubting the plausibility of that actually succeeding but they sure as hell are trying:https://twitter.com/mccaffreyr3/status/1326669857266397184 …

Sure, I get that. But with no chance of success, is there any conclusion other than “no need to worry”? Someone posited that trump might build an exact replica of the Oval Office in trump tower and become president in exile, which I found amusing. It’s not especially worrisome.

Yes. Mark me down as alarmed. This POS is going to look for any way to do damage or maintain power until he can.

Right. It’s fine to be alarmed. But to let it take over your life isn’t worth it. On a scale of 1 to covid, this ranks a solid “possible earthquake”: brief, ultimately irrelevant event that society will recover from with minimal damage. There won’t be zero. But it’s not inf.

Ultimately, self-preservation will take over for trump. He knows if he pushes it too far, then prison is on the table. It’ll be just fine. But, hey, I thought he was going to win the election, so what do I know. I’ll be glad when January comes though.

I was subscribing to that theory of self-preservation until the GOP and right wing media started synching on the messaging and the methods. It's not just Trump. It's the party and the enablers.

Sure, you are probably right. But without the military, they can’t do anything. Just try to internalize that, is all I’m saying. It might have a calming effect. You’re right that the effect on society won’t be zero, but it’s not going to work either.
