I keep seeing pacifying tweets that people want to believe, saying "Trump is too stupid to pull off a coup". It's not just Trump- he's the clown show that won't get out of our heads. He has Bill Barr, Mitch McConnell, Mike Pompeo, Steve Bannon...etc. They're not dumb.

You may be right. But what if you're wrong? You're making a prediction that will probably be conclusively proven or disproven. If disproven, how will you adjust?

I don't think it can be any clearer that there's an attempted coup here. We've been told for months by Trump himself that this is how it was going to go. The attempt is unambiguous. If it fails? Great! I will have been an alarmist at worst. I'm used to being wrong.

Alarmism isn't a neutral force, though. Misplaced alarmism will either tune people out ("the boy who cried wolf") or lure them into an misplaced radicalism.

I'm simply convinced it's not misplaced. Sorry. They're broadcasting their intentions clear as day. There's a such thing as misplaced confidence, too.

The military won’t back a coup. I recommend @Tazerface16’s many tweets on the matter. And with that, trump will be leaving in January, and that’s the end of it. Mostly we’ll be glad to have you back in Jan. Only two months, and you won’t need to worry anymore.
