I don't think this common behavior, but when you're relatively well known on the internet, apparently this is the sort of stuff you occasionally attract from people around the planet. It's an interesting experience.

PSA: It's really socially strange and ineffective as a total stranger to cold call me for big favors. e.g. to ask me to recommend you to an employer, or to share our proprietary code, promising "I will never not show your code to anyone". True story btw.
