I think it's about as unhelpful to group "white Americans" with blanket statements as it is to make any other race generalizations like that. It's more accurate to say that it's an urban vs rural divide, peppered with unfortunate white supremacy. /1
The truth is that these "white Americans" he's talking about that vote in this way basically exist on a different planet mentally and experientially. There's a huge disconnect there and yes we "white liberals" underestimate this, greatly. Even when we grew up in it. 2/

I think more attention should be paid to the various mind fucks in place that keep these people voting against their own interests: The propaganda, the lack of education, the drug and alcohol abuse, the narcissistic nationalism that we encourage, etc.... /3
