  I think with certain photo historians it is a fetishistic aspect to old photos looking old, nevermind that images didn't have scratches and b&w wasnt avail. That view does nothing to better understand history. I think many original photogs would be in awe of the restored images.

  FWIW I think you picked one of the single best problems for deep learning because it doesn't matter that much if the colors are truly correct! Just looking believable brings the viewer into a whole new world and makes it more relatable

  I think it’s important to show the original and the colourised image which you and @RobCross247 do. Colourisation doesn’t negate the importance of the original, it gives a different perspective!
