Here's something I rarely brag about: I got fired after 6 weeks on my first software development job right out of college. Reason: Incompetence, basically. And relative to the (in hindsight) ridiculous task that was given to me- creating a billing system in 4 weeks- true! 1/

I'm not sure if I'm at the point where I'd say somebody shouldn't legally be able to fire "at will", etc. But I'd argue in a lot of cases the employers are simply shooting themselves in the foot in the way they often refuse to work on cultivating employees long term.

I'd also argue that expecting a fresh college graduate to implement a payment system well in 4 weeks says more about them than you.

I'm pretty sure they just wanted an excuse to get rid of me from day one so they created an impossible task for me to fail on. There's a little more to the story but I'll save that for another day. I just wasn't savvy enough at the time to know better.
